In a move to preserve and showcase its rich journalistic history, the Rock Creek High School online newspaper The Hoof Print has launched a new “History / Archives” section. This section will feature digitized versions of old print editions, offering students, alumni, and the community a chance to revisit past stories and milestones that have shaped the school’s history.
The initiative to upload these historic editions will require months of work by the school’s newspaper staff. They will be digitizing and posting editions dating back to the early 2000s, the team hopes to make the archives easily accessible to everyone, while ensuring that past publications are preserved for future generations.
“The History section is an exciting opportunity to bring our school’s legacy into the digital age,” Shana Schmidt, adviser of the Rock Creek High School Online Newspaper said. “Not only does this make our past stories available to a wider audience, but it also highlights the dedicated work of journalism students over the years who helped build this publication and program to what it is today.”
The archive includes a variety of articles, from significant school events, sports coverage, features, and editorial pieces that reflect the changing culture of the school over time.
Alumni, current students, and parents are encouraged to explore the new History section, which will continue to grow as more issues are scanned and uploaded. The newspaper staff hopes this initiative will spark greater engagement with The Hoof Print and provide insight into how the school has evolved over the years.
“I think it is wonderful to have the old newspapers on our site,” Oliva Bowman, writer for The Hoof Print said “because we should never forget our roots”
Editors will begin adding past issues each Monday in December in the “History / Archive” section, which you can locate by visiting The Hoof Print and then navigating to the History / Archives section on the navigation menu.
