Rock Creek’s new girls’ basketball coach, Trevor Keller, is ready to drive into his first season as the Mustangs head coach. He brings plenty of experience, having coached boys’ basketball at Royal Valley for a year and girls’ basketball at Wabaunsee for five years. Now, he’s excited to make Rock Creek his new home.
“My family and I live in the district, so it’s a closer commute for me and them,” Keller said. He also expressed how much he loves the competitive atmosphere at Rock Creek and the amazing facilities. “The opportunity to be part of all of that made it an easy choice for me,” Keller said.
When it comes to coaching style, he wants his players to do more than just execute plays; he wants them to grasp the dynamics of the sport. “I’m competitive, but I also want to make sure players have an understanding of the game,” Keller said. He also believes in pushing players to compete at a high level while staying true to their values. “You can have really high character, work extremely hard, and compete at a high level,” Keller said.
Keller has big goals for the team. In the short term, he just wants to see the team improve every day. “I know it sounds cliché, but really, that’s where we’re at,” Keller said. His long-term goals include winning their mid-season tournament, winning league, and maybe even going to the state tournament.
Building team chemistry is another thing Keller is passionate about. “It’s something you have to work at every single day,” Keller said. For him, it’s all about encouraging each other and working together as a team.
Keller knows there will be challenges in his first season, especially with how competitive their schedule and league is. “We have to make sure we’re prepared and improving every day because if we’re not, we’ll get beat,” Keller said. Still, he’s excited about the season and looks forward to what the team can accomplish.
With his focus on hard work, character, and teamwork, Keller expresses his readiness to lead Rock Creek girls’ basketball to a successful season.
