I love the movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas. No, not the 2018 cartoon version titled The Grinch, the better one is the 2000 movie version with Jim Carrey. This adaptation is my favorite to watch when it comes to Christmas time, it’s funny while still being able to send out the message of how the Grinch grew to love Christmas, and it’s perfect for the holidays.
Here’s the problem: I used to be able to log in to Netflix and watch this movie with no problem, but this year Netflix has taken the movie off their streaming site. How the Grinch Stole Christmas has been removed from a lot of streaming sites like Peacock, Netflix, and Disney Plus.
However, you can still watch it on places like YoutubeTV, AppleTV, Vudu, and Amazon Prime but unfortunately, you do have to buy or rent from each of those sites. At the moment, the only place you can watch the movie version for free is on Sling through FreeForm but that is with ads.
It is disappointing that this movie was retired from all of these sites that give us free access, especially around the holidays. Many people love this movie and watch it as one of their traditions for the holidays.
When looking into reasons why it has been removed it has been reported that Dr.Seuss’s widow, Audrey Geisel, disapproved of the film’s direction and tone, so that could be a possible reasoning for why How the Grinch Stole Christmas movie has been taken off many streaming sites.
While there is no clear rationale why How the Grinch Stole Christmas has been taken off many streaming sites, another feasiable reason is that some parents find the 2018 cartoon version of The Grinch is less scary and more suitable for younger children.
Yes, the cartoon The Grinch may be more appealing to look at for the younger audience considering the more cartoony appearance and style. It has been said that filming the movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas wasn’t the easiest either, with Jim Carrey having to spend hours in the makeup chair and hardly being able to breathe and move around in the Grinch costume.
While there is no definitive reason why the movie version has been removed from many streaming services, you can still enjoy the film if you are willing to pay or have it on DVD. So this season you may want to put it on your Christmas list or who knows you may find it under your tree from Santa.
