On Friday, March 28, 2025, U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran, a Republican from Kansas, visited Rock Creek High School in St. George. Moran, who represents Kansas’ 1st District, was on campus to meet with our faculty and students. One student in particular was junior Briley Griffin to discuss her time at NASA camp this past summer.
Three student leaders—Griffin, senior Ashanti Gibbs, and senior Colton Klecan—along with counselor Kelli Grieves, led the senator on a tour of the school.
During his visit, Moran had the opportunity to explore various areas of the campus. He visited the school’s academic departments and spoke with teachers. Additionally, Moran toured the athletic facilities, including the gymnasium and weight room, where he learned about the school’s sports programs. He also visited our trophy hallway where students shared many of the successes of all of our programs like Scholar’s Bowl, Forensics, Debate, Music and many other amazing achievements.
A key moment of the visit was a discussion with U.S. government teacher Christopher Schmitz. Earlier this year, Schmitz’s students studied the roles of Kansas senators, and Moran shared insights on his work, in addition they had a conversation about their reflections on the 1972 Watergate scandal, which is one of the events that lead to his interest in politics.
Rock Creek High School expressed its gratitude to Moran for taking the time to visit and for allowing students to share their experiences. The senator’s visit will continue to inspire and motivate students for years to come.
