As new season of softball starts, it brings a new energy buzz of energy through the air! Softball season is in full swing. Cleats hit the dirt, gloves snap in practice, and the team gears up for another competitive year on the field. While excitement is high, the road ahead isn’t without its bumps.
With a growing roster—around 36 players showing up for a single game on a small field, making practices and games feel tight and intense. But the players and coaches don’t let that hold them back.
“Everything is a challenge, if you want it to be,” Head Coach Jeri Brummett said, emphasizing the overcoming obstacles mindset that the team brings to the field.
Despite the obstacles, the players are motivated by their love for the game and the bond they share as a team.
“I enjoy playing softball because I love the energy from the people and the hype it brings,” junior and right outfielder, Emma Ross said.
One thing the team makes sure they are covering is skill development. They spend their time making sure that everyone is expanding their skills and they all have a commitment to improvement. From veterans to freshmen, each player focuses on developing their skills and growing as athletes.
“ I just want to get better at all my skills, be better at the sport, and really just enjoy having fun,” freshman and outfield player, Brekin Pendleton said.
But growth isn’t just about physical skill, it’s also about mental strength. Ross opened up about the self-doubt that can creep in during tough moments.
“Not being as good as everybody else or thinking that you are not as good as everybody else,” Ross said.
Confidence, especially in high-pressure moments, is something Pendleton is learning to build as well.
”The biggest challenge I’ve probably faced is maintaining confidence behind the home plate when batting,” Pendleton said.
The team tackles these challenges head-on during practice, focusing on drills and reps to sharpen every aspect of their game.
“All the drills we have to do and all the practices…,” Ross said, “it is hard work, but it is worth it.”
As game days approach, the team’s hard work and unity are their greatest strengths. For Coach Brummett, the love of the sport never fades.
“There is something to love about [softball] every year,” Brummett said.
And with passion, teamwork, and perseverance on their side, this team is ready to make this season count.
