Diving for balls and defending off negativity this volleyball guru does not come to mess around on the court. Camry Wilkens, a sophomore at Rock Creek High School, a defensive specialist on the JV volleyball team, and is a rising queen on the court. Camry without a doubt is a force to be reckoned with but she is also a genuine person.
“That’s one of things I love about Camry, is no matter what the situation is, you’re gonna get Camry. She’s kind everywhere she goes, and willing to help others and always positive and works really hard in the classroom and on the court” Head Rock Creek Volleyball Coach Ali Snapp said.
Snapp has been head coach at Rock Creek for five years but has also coached club volleyball and has been an assistant coach at previous schools.
“I think volleyball is fun to be around, to play, to coach, to watch, so I’m just a big fan of the sport in general,” Snapp said.
Even to her teammates Wilkens is known as the driving force and the glue that holds together the team for Girls Volleyball here at Rock Creek.
“She’s really uplifting, and every time I look at her, she’s always celebrating whether we get a point or really just in practice, she’s always uplifting others and being positive” Addy Meile, a fellow teammate, said.
Camry, a Jill of all trades last year, decided to hone in on one position this year as a defense specialist, but even though her position is changing one thing hasn’t changed, her work ethic.
“She works hard. She’s so positive to everyone around her. She’s willing to work hard for every single ball. So she’s always diving, getting on the floor. She’s not afraid to go all out on the court,” Snapp said.
Camry overall is destined to dominate the court in her next and upcoming years in volleyball. With her natural leadership skills and her undying love for the community that is her volleyball team, Camry is sure to be remembered and loved once she graduates from high school and into college where she wants to major in education. Even as a sophomore she is wise beyond her year, passing on this advice for future Rock Creek volleyball players.
“Don’t be nervous. Everything works out for a reason. Just like going in with an open mind, you might be switching positions, and that’s okay. Everything just works out,” Wilkens said.
