Jody Wick, a member of the Rock Creek Board of Education for the last seven years, continues to help Rock Creek achieve its goals and maintain the sense of community that is Rock Creek.
Wick sees his role on the board as “to keep Rock Creek the great place [and] the great community that it is, to keep moving forward with our goals and stay on track,” Wick said.
His family motivates him to be involved with the school board. He has had three children attend Rock Creek. Alumni, Ben and Abby are his two oldest, while Lily is currently a sophomore.
Having a parent on the school board is “definitely interesting, because I know more of the problems that’s happening that most students don’t really know about” Lily said.
Even when Jody Wick is not at the school, the responsibility of being on the board of education is never-ending. “You get asked a lot of questions. you might be at the convenience store getting gas, and it’s like, “Hey, Mr. Wick I want to talk to you about this”” Wick said.
Serving the Rock Creek community is a volunteer position so most board members have a full-time job or a career that they are committed to as well. Wick additionally provided services to his community through his employment.
“I am the outside sales representative for Heartland Door [and Window Company], which is the garage door division, and we are a division of an international company Beacon, which is a roofing supply company,” Wick said.
Wick’s dedication to service has been evident through work and his two four-year terms on the school board.
“At the end of next year, that will be the end of my second term, I won’t run again. My youngest Lily, she will be…halfway through her junior year. So, I’m not going to run for another four years and not have a kid in school.” Wick said.
