When students at Rock Creek High School hear the name Ayla Klingenberg, they think first about her illustrious volleyball career that started in 4th grade. In fact, there is not a record or award that she has not achieved in her high school career. However, although Ayla dominates the sport, that does not completely define her as a Rock Creek student. The sport she enjoys has taught her life lessons like camaraderie, listening to leaders, overcoming challenges and striving for excellence in all areas of her
”Ever since I was a little girl I just fell in love with the sport,” Klingenberg said, ”the more I’ve played it the more my love for it has grown.”
As graduation approaches she reflects on the long-lasting relationships she has made. For many seniors, the experience is bittersweet. They are ready to move on to college but have created fond memories here that they can carry with them.
“I will definitely miss all the relationships I’ve formed and all the friends I’ve made,” Klingenberg said.
Having mentors plays a crucial role in shaping one’s values and inspiration. Often role models for students could be your family members, teachers and faculty members, coaches, youth group leaders, or any other trusted adult. However, for Klingenberg, that role model is her father,
”I look up to my Dad because he is the strongest and most hard-working person I know,” Klingenberg said, “he inspires me a lot and I get a lot of morals from him.”
With her families support Klingenberg started planning her exit project during her junior year, the exit project becomes a milestone in all Rock Creek seniors high school career. The project challenges seniors to demonstrate and apply their academic knowledge in a more experiential way. Klingenberg is almost finished with her exit project of creating a nutrition cookbook.
“The whole goal is to make foods healthy, but it’s actually really hard to make healthy foods taste good,” Klingenberg said.
Klingenberg’s determination and passion lights up any room she enters, leaving a lasting impact on anyone she meets. Her commitment to excellence, whether that’s on the volleyball court or in a classroom, sets a high standard for her peers. Her legacy of hard work and kindness continues to inspire others around her, proving that true leadership comes from the heart.
