As the school year winds down, Rock Creek High School students still facing final papers and assignments are encouraged to take advantage of a valuable academic resource—the Rock Creek Writing Center.
Crunch time is here, and students have papers to finish before the end of the year, students don’t need to stress alone. They can receive help at the Rock Creek Writing Center!
“Writing can be overwhelming, especially when deadlines are looming,” Shana Schmidt, Writing Center Director, said. “But you don’t have to do it alone. The Rock Creek Writing Center is a place where students can get the support they need to feel more confident in their writing.”
Since 2018, the Writing Center has been a free resource where students can work one-on-one with trained peer tutors on any part of the writing process. Whether they are stumped on ideas, need help organizing their thoughts, or just want a second pair of eyes on your grammar. The Writing Center located in the Media Center before school is here for students 9-12.
Appointments are available before school, students can pick a time that works best for them and then fill out a quick form so peer tutors know what the student is working on. Then Mrs. Schmidt will assign you to one of the following 2024-2025 tutors: Zane Dubiel, Reese Grady, Curtis Martinie, Ryenn Cooper, Cooper Hafenstein, Aiden Levendofsky, Gabe Martin, Tristan Scott, Jonas Smith, and Segen Sutton.
“Our peer tutors aren’t just good writers—they’re great listeners,” Schmidt said. “They’ve been trained to ask the right questions, offer helpful feedback, and help each student grow as a writer.”
Pro tip: Students are asked to bring in their assignment and any guidelines that the teacher gives them!

Remember, tutors aren’t there to “fix” students paper for them. Tutors aim to collaborate, not just correct! So students should come ready to grow as a writer. Students often wait to late to get the support they need before the final bell rings! Do not let that happen to you come team up with one of our peer-tutors so you can become a stronger writer. Finish the year strong!
“We want students to leave their session feeling empowered, not just with a better draft, but with stronger writing skills they can use in the future,” Schmidt said.
