Hardly any time has passed since the 2023 Kansas City Chief vs. Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl rematch. On February 9, 2025, both teams clashed again in hopes of taking home the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Although many people favored the Chiefs to win, Dawson Rankin, a senior football player at Rock Creek High School, predicted the “Eagles beating the Chiefs.”
The Kansas City Chiefs entered Super Bowl LIX in hopes of making history as the only NFL team to win three consecutive titles. Instead, the Chiefs’ faced a much different outcome; they were on the verge of becoming the first Super Bowl team to ever be held scoreless.
In Rankin’s opinion, “[The game] was kind of over in the first quarter. And then it just started to get worse as the game went on.”
From the start, the Super Bowl was largely controlled by the Philadelphia Eagles. It wasn’t until the second half that the Chiefs were finally able to score.
“I thought it would be more of an entertaining Super Bowl… like we’re about to witness greatness” Rankin said.
Throughout the matchup, both teams displayed qualities that ultimately led to the final outcome of the Super Bowl. Particularly, the Eagles performed exceptionally well thanks to a key player.
According to NBC News, “Eagles quarterback, Jalen Hurts, was named the game’s most valuable player after throwing for 221 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception, and rushing for 72 yards and a touchdown.”
The Chiefs, on the other hand, weren’t so lucky in this matchup.
“Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 257 yards, but all three of his touchdown passes came after the Chiefs had already trailed 34-0” NBC wrote.
In the end, the final score relayed 22-40, leaving the Eagles with a victory. Regardless, the Super Bowl LIX was a game to remember.
