With the Trap season underway, junior, Devon Helget, has big plans from high school to college dreams that still include being involved in trapshooting.
Beyond high school Helget has plans to continue shooting competively “I plan on going to MATC to be a linemen, but I also plan on shooting for the K-State team,” Devon Helget said.
Senior Lauren Blackwood is focused on this season and looks forward to the general competitions and is excited that overall more girls are interested in Trapshooting as a sport.
“I am very confident because I have been doing this for four years, and so I think I’ve just improved every single year,” Blackwood said.
With the help of their coach, Jake Helget, the members stay consistent by meeting for practice every Wednesday and Saturdays starting in the month of April. Practice times is usually from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The long hours and rounds put down range make create the muscle memory needed to place at nationals. This year nationals will be held at Lansing, Michigan in July. Where the coach hopes to take at least two full squads of about 12 people total.
“It has taught me a lot of patience and dedication to something I love doing,” Devon Helget said.
