Brooklyn Gibbs, a Junior at Rock Creek High School, values helping and talking to others, has many hidden talents and wants to one day pursue a career in sports journalism.
“Some of my strengths are, I would definitely say, helping people out.” Brooklyn Gibbs said,
Gibbs has a passion for talking to others and loves to hang out with her friends and family. She has two brothers and three sisters, one of which is Ashanti Gibbs, a senior at Rock Creek High School, who Gibbs looks up to.
“As a person, she is very sociable, and she is very bright,” older sister, Ashanti Gibbs said, “the reason why I said sociable is because she can make conversations with anybody”
Along with being a good conversationalist, she is a very considerate person who cares about her friends. Junior Gavin Smith is one of Gibbs’s best friends who hangs out with her at football games and stores, such as Spirit Halloween.
“She is very bright and she’s positive,” Smith said, “On some days you’re feeling kind of down… she can really bring up the vibe.”
Gibbs is a very fun and confident person who loves to make memories with not only her friends and family but also her teachers. Shana Schmidt, the Rock Creek High School journalism teacher, appreciates having Gibbs in her class because she is such a good student who is inclusive and positive.
“She is also such an amazing team player. She worries about others and puts their needs and concerns above her own and that makes her a great team player,” Schmidt said, “she’s really good at making sure everybody feels included and cared about and seen,”
In order to bond with the people she loves Gibbs has to do things she may not find as much joy in. The sisters have many traditions, such as watching Charlie Brown on the holidays, but are not as similar as you may think.
“Brooklyn and I are very polar opposites… but I try to do things that she likes, and she tries to do things I like,” sister, Ashanti Gibbs said.
Gibbs has many things she does outside of school and talents that not many people know about, such as working at South Forty Cafe in Westmoreland, spending time with God and reading her bible, and doing makeup.
“She is really good at makeup… for some people they usually watch video tutorials… She self-taught herself,” older sibling, Ashanti Gibbs said.
Gibbs has been in journalism since middle school and did not plan on continuing until her sister convinced her to. In the future, Gibbs wants to go to K-State to be a Sports journalist on ESPN.
“ESPN has always been a dream of mine, and a lot of the sports journalists are on ESPN” Gibbs said.
