With the conclusion of winter sports just around the corner. We take a deep look into the careers of 4 senior girls wrestlers. Celebrating their wins and the impact they will leave on girls wrestling at Rock Creek for years to come.
In 2021, these senior wrestlers stepped into the wrestling room at Rock Creek High School. At the time this was the first year of having a girls team at Rock Creek. At that time there were only 8 girls on the team however now the team has grown to seventeen Girls.
That progress is no longer just something written in record books, it’s standing on today’s mats. And nowhere is that growth more visible than in this year’s senior girls wrestlers.
- Joee Perkins (105) with a career record of 82-54.
- Claire Steeves (120) with a career record of 68-82.
- Jade Vidana (130) With a career record of 11-57.
- Dakota Moeller (155) with a career record of 78-42
These girls are always willing to jump up to help when Coach Brad Burnheide needs someone to demonstrate a move, to teach the younger girls, and to be a role model.
Wrestling has contributed significantly to the personal and physical development of many athletes. For Jade Vidana, the sport has instilled confidence and encouraged her to step outside of her comfort zone.
“I believe it has helped me express myself more. I’ve always been considered a shy individual, so since I started wrestling, I’ve become more open,” Vidana said.
In addition to personal growth, the team environment has played a vital role in making the season meaningful. Joee Perkins highlighted how the support within the wrestling team has fostered a sense of belonging and appreciation.
“Brad Burnhiede, thank you for all the conversations we’ve had in the wrestling room, including with all the girls. You’ve made this year enjoyable and made me feel included,” Perkins stated.
For others, the impact of wrestling extends beyond a single season and reflects years of dedication and meaningful relationships. Claire Steeves shared what she values most from her high school experience.
“The people and all my friends. Work that I’ve made throughout my high school.” Steeves said.
These girls will be competing in a super regional on Thursday and Friday February 12 and 13 in Wichita, Kansas at Augusta High School 2020 Ohio Street. A typical regional consists of about 10 teams. They are calling this tournament a “super” regional because of the fact they have thirty one teams set for competition. The top 8 individuals in each weight class from Augusta will be advancing to state in Salina on February 27 at the Tony’s Pizza Event Center.
Please come out to Rock Creek High School Gym at 6:00 p.m. on February 10, 2026 to celebrate and show support for our Rock Creek senior wrestlers on senior night honoring their dedication, leadership, and lasting impact on the program as they take the mat for the final time at home against the Marysville Bulldogs.
