A driven high school senior with a passion for leadership and finance, Gabe Martin is already making his mark as the vice president of the Future Business Leaders of America student organization at RCHS. Gabe is also the newest member of The Hoof Print staff and is eager to get started.
Gabe has made the most of his senior year by contributing to FBLA’s success as vice president.
“The better job I do at FBLA gives a better opportunity to those underclassmen for whenever they’re coming up and being in the leadership position in FBLA” Martin said.
Last year Gabe received the opportunity to compete at the national FBLA competition in Florida.
Gabe’s selfless qualities led him to take on an unpaid internship at Varney and Associates to better understand the financial career path.
“They’ve given us a lot of knowledge and wisdom that they had to help us throughout our career” Martin said, “and kind of put us on the right track”.
Gabe’s internship was through the high school’s Career and Technical Education program. He later gave a speech to a joint advisory board meeting to improve the program at RCHS.
After Gabe graduates he plans on going to college for business finance to learn about banking and accounting. His interest in finance came from family members and inspired him to pursue a career in this field.
“Business and finance has always been a topic in discussion in my family so I have heard lots about it from a very young age” Martin said.
Martin also owns and operates a small landscaping business. Where he spends a great deal of time in the spring and summer months working on his business. He has developed many characteristics of a promising entrepreneur through this, and plans on further developing his skills through college by continuing his business.
“I have learned a lot about business in general just by running my own business. Having control and responsibility over every aspect of a business is very stressful and rewarding. I really enjoy having control of my own schedule and working to expand my business.” Martin said.
As Martin moves on to college he can still be contacted for his landscaping business by calling him at 785-410-2604 and requesting a quote.
