Greta Martini, an international student from Turin, Italy, has had to adjust to the new life here in Kansas but there are a few things keeping her grounded: cheer and dance. Back in Italy she danced for the New Era Dance Movement three years prior before coming to Kansas, but cheer has been a completely new world for Greta.
“In Italy I did dancing, so I wanted to try something new, like cheer, because I never did it,” Martini said.
In just a short amount Greta has truly already made a huge difference in the cheer and dance teams. Her positivity and her willingness to work hard has truly been a ray of sunshine that has been shining down on the teams.
“She is so funny, and the thing she says gets all of the girls laughing, and she’s just the most happy person ever,” Taylor Prockish, a captain of the cheer and dance team, said.
Like the infamous flower the Forget-Me-Not, Greta doesn’t break when things get tough, she endures and perseveres through all challenges and tribulations.
“… She had to try out all by herself. She didn’t get the practice times that our girls get and the fact that she was able to learn the dance off of the video with no one helping her through it, no one helping through technique … she showed us that she was able to learn it all,” Dannielle Hediman, a coach for the RCHS dance team, said.
Granted Greta sometimes doesn’t understand everything about Kansas and still is doing some adjustments to the new life. Greta speaks fluently in human empathy and is always willing to lend a helping hand.
“Greta cares on a different level. She always looks excited to be there and she just makes everyone excited to be around her because she cares so much,” Delilah Hunter, a fellow cheer and dance athlete, said.
Even though Greta is definitely enjoying her time at Rock Creek with the football games, meeting new people and the atmosphere in general, she can’t help but reminisce on those special moments back in Italy.
“ My favorite memory. I think is cooking with my grandma because she’s so sweet and I miss her so much,” Martini said.
The Forget-Me-Not is such a beautiful flower that you can’t simply forget about, like Greta. Greta has made such a deep impact on Rock Creek as a whole, not just on the cheer and dance team. She has bloomed into a person that everyone loves to be around and admire.
“Greta is awesome, and we love her,” Mayci Armstrong, a coach for RCHS cheer team, said!
