Dear Rocky,
How do I care for people?
Sincerely,
Your Caring Mustang
Dear Caring Mustang,
I would like to start off with that I am just so happy that you’re writing to me. I also want to say that, I’m glad you’re wanting to care for people. Caring for people can be difficult, but one of the most rewarding things you can do.
I find that people feel cared about when they are being listened to, not just acting like you’re listening, but actually acknowledging what they are saying makes a big impact. Responding to them by saying things like “I understand” or asking “how can I help”, is a good way to show them that you are actively listening.
Also, remeber that when you’re helping someone you don’t have to tackle all of their burdens all at once. It might help them for you to just focus on one problems at a time. My biggest advice on how to care for someone is honestly to just be there for them. Also, know that is ok for you to not have all the answers for them. If the things you are trying to help them with seem big and overwhelming know that it is ok for you to help them find a trusted adult to talk through things with as well.
Sincerely,
Rocky
