The Hoof Print, Rock Creek High School’s online student newspaper, is proud to unveil a new logo created through the collaborative efforts of senior journalism students, Gavin Smith and Joe McFall. The final design reflects not only Mustang pride, but also the teamwork, creativity that define Rock Creek’s journalism program.
The logo project began during the first semester when Smith developed an original pencil sketch concept. His hand-drawn idea laid the creative foundation for the newspaper’s new visual identity. That concept was later shared with McFall, a senior with a strong interest in graphic design, who worked to refine the original vision and transform it into a polished digital logo suitable for online publication, social media, and promotional use.
The finished logo features a mustang in motion wearing a classic newsboy hat, a visual nod to traditional journalism. A satchel labeled The Hoof Print, filled with rolled newspapers, represents student journalists carrying stories, responsibility, and the voices of their school community. Together, the elements blend the school’s Mustang identity with the purpose and history of journalism.
“This logo perfectly represents how our students work together,” said Shana Schmidt, journalism adviser at Rock Creek High School. “Gavin brought the original concept, Joe applied his graphic design skills, and through collaboration, they created something meaningful for The Hoof Print and our journalism program.”
The new logo will be used across The Hoof Print’s online platform, social media, and promotional materials. More than just a design update, the logo stands as a visual symbol of student collaboration and the creative opportunities available through Rock Creek High School’s Career and Technical Education course in the Media Design and Communications pathway.
