Rock Creek students and faculty are ready for a fun-filled week of spirit, dancing, shooting hoops, and the crowning of this year’s king and queen. The Rock Creek Mustangs take on the Marysville Bulldogs on February 6. The Lady Stangs game starts at 6:30, and the boys’ game is to follow.
The themes for Spirit Week are Monday, PJ Pants Day; Tuesday, Twin Day; Wednesday, Jersey Day; Thursday, Cartoon Crew Day; and Friday, Class Colors, with freshmen wearing blue, sophomores grey, juniors white, and seniors black.
The king candidates are Cordae Kirksey, Wade Rottinghaus, Gavin Smith, and Ezra Spiller. The queen candidates are Lauren Blackwood, Reagan French, Reese Grady, and Claire Schimke. The crowning of the king and queen will take place between the girls’ and boys’ games.
Senior Ellie Prather has been to all of the Winter Formals, and her favorite memory is “getting ready and going out to eat with my friends.” For newcomers, like freshmen, to “not be nervous and have fun regardless,” Prather said.
Freshman Lucas Allen, being a newcomer, is excited to be going to his first Winter Formal, which he believes “will be a fun event with a mix of chill and exciting moments.” Something he is excited about is “all the music and getting to hang out with my buddies,” Allen said.
Tori Sieben, the student council sponsor, does all the behind-the-scenes work, from getting all the decorations set up to arranging the DJ. Sieben has been setting up for Winter Formal for the past 11 years, and she explains that STUCO members decide on a theme for the hallway decorations the week prior, along with everything that goes into the whole week of fun. The cost is $5 to get into the dance.
