Rock Creek High School Principal, Eric Koppes announced plans to retire at the end of the current semester, concluding a 36-year career in education and 13.5 years of leadership at Rock Creek High School.
His announcement was shared with faculty and staff at a meeting, a letter emailed to all students and families, and formally shared with the Rock Creek USD 323 Board of Education during its December 8 meeting. Koppes has served the district in multiple roles throughout their career, including teacher, coach, and building administrator.
In a message to students, staff, and families, Koppes expressed his gratitude for the opportunities and relationships built during their time in the district. He thanked instructional and support staff for their dedication and acknowledged the leadership of former superintendents Kevin Logan and Joan Simoneau, as well as current Superintendent Steve Splichal. Appreciation was also extended to current and former Board of Education members for their continued support.
“I will forever have countless fond memories of our district,” Koppes said.
While the decision to retire was described as a difficult one, Koppes stated that the time felt right to step into retirement.
Although Koppes, will be stepping away from the role, he emphasized his continued connection to the Rock Creek community and expressed excitement about returning and remaining a Mustang supporter. He maintians his pride in the district’s students, artists, athletes, performers, and young leaders and he look forward to cheering on the Mustangs in academics, activities, arts, and athletics.
Rock Creek High School and the Rock Creek USD 323 community thank the principal for all his years of service and leadership and wish him the best in retirement.
